During September, we are offering three FREE workshops for kids and young people celebrating our theme on intangible heritage.

Yoruba Storytime and Singing with CultureTree for children aged 0-6

“Would you like your children to hear the Yoruba folktale of why dogs are kept at home as pets or why the Bear has a short tail? Would you like them to learn some songs in Yoruba?

Join Gbemisola Isimi of CultureTree as she leads this fun interactive Yoruba storytime and singing session.

 

Introduction to Swahili with Odunife Language School for children aged 7-11

Let’s Learn Swahili! This engaging and interactive workshop will allow children to learn Swahili – Africa’s most widely spoken language – through song and call & response storytelling. Materials will be sent in advance so that everyone can participate fully.

 

Short story writing workshop with Sarah Asuquo for young people aged 11+

11am -12:30pm

In this short story writing workshop, Sarah will be outlining the key components of narrative writing and exploring examples of these elements in children’s literature. Participants will then have the opportunity to create their own adventure stories with prompts inspired by African cultures. They will be guided through this process, focusing on how to develop an effective plot, create interesting characters and establish vivid settings.
