With Amina Jama.

A two part creative writing workshop for 12 – 15 year olds to explore their poetic voice!

Join poet Amina Jama in this two-part workshop as she takes 12 – 15 year old writers through the joys of finding their poetic voice, the power of imagination and techniques in how to overcome barriers to creativity. This is a chance to explore and have fun!

Amina’s poem ‘Recurring Dream’ was featured in Rising Stars: New Young Voices in Poetry (2017), a collection introducing new voices in poetry for 10-14 years old. The poetry anthology showcases the work of five debut poets from diverse backgrounds.

Here’s what you need to know about Amina Jama:

Amina Jama is a Somali-British writer and curator. An alumna of Barbican Young Poets, and member of Octavia WOC Poetry Collective. Her work explores displacement, dual cultural identity and family.

Structure of workshop and safeguarding guidelines:

The workshops are one hour each (11:00 – 12:00 BST) and hosted on Crowdcast. You will need to register your child(ren)/young person for both workshops separately on the Crowdcast platform. Participants will need to have a computer or smart device and a reliable internet connection in order to participate. This is a live event, which will not be recorded.

To get the full experience it is best that the participant commits to attending both sessions.

The workshops are aimed at children and young people aged 12 – 15 years old. To ensure those attending the workshops are children and young people, we ask that videos are on. If participants join without video and cannot verify they are a child/young person, we will remove that participant from the session. The safety of our participants is paramount, and the virtual room will be locked after the sessions have started. If you have any concerns with the above you are welcome to contact Marcelle Akita on ma130@soas.ac.uk.

**NO LONGER TAKING REGISTRATIONS AS THE WORKSHOP HAS BEEN CANCELLED**
