Loving Womxn: Deliberate and Afraid of Nothing

Loving Womxn: Deliberate and Afraid of Nothing
Sunday 1 July
13:00 – 14:15

Queer womxn’s narratives in Africa and the diaspora with Phyll Opoku-Gyimah, Bibi Bakare-Yusuf, Trifonia Melibea Obono and Liv Little. Chaired by Eliza Anyangwe.

This event brings together editors and writers from Africa and the diaspora to discuss narratives by queer women, and creating spaces for women to tell their stories. We delve into the writing process of sharing intimate stories, and hear from those who are facilitating and bridging the connection between the writer and the reader.

The event marks the publication of two anthologies of writing, Sista! (Team Angelica, 2018) which explores the challenges, joys, heart-aches, rewards and experience of same-gender-loving women of African African-Caribbean descent with connections to the UK; She Called Me Woman (Cassava Republic, 2018) described as a stirring and intimate collection of 25 unique narratives to paint a vivid portrait of what it means to be a queer Nigerian woman; and La Bastarda by Trifonia Melibea Obono (Feminist Press, 2018) described as a teenage orphan’s quest of self-discovery, and the first novel by an Equatorial Guinean woman to be translated into English.

Included in Weekend Pass and Sunday Day Ticket.
