A two part creative writing workshop for 16 – 18 year olds to explore their poetic voice!

Join poet Yomi Sode in this two-part workshop as he takes 16 – 18 year old writers through the joys of finding their poetic voice, the power of imagination and techniques in how to overcome barriers to creativity. This is a chance to explore and have fun! 

Yomi’s debut collection Manorism explores family, survival, generational trauma and the complexities of belonging; it is an examination of the lives of Black British men and boys and will be released in May 2022.

Here’s what you need to know about Yomi Sode:

Yomi Sode is a Nigerian British writer, performer, facilitator and 2019 Jerwood Compton Poetry Fellow. He has been published in various magazines and anthologies, read his poems internationally and is a trustee for Raw Material. His plays ‘COAT’ and ‘and breathe’ played to sold-out audiences. Yomi is a judge for 2021 Foyles and Penguin poetry Prizes and his first collection ‘Manorism’ will be published by Penguin Press in May 2022.

Structure of workshop and safeguarding guidelines:

The workshops are one hour each (16:30 – 17:30 BST) and hosted on Crowdcast. You will need to register for both workshops separately on the Crowdcast platform. Participants will need to have a computer or smart device and a reliable internet connection in order to participate. This is a live event, which will not be recorded.

To get the full experience it is best that the participant commits to attending both sessions.

The workshops are aimed at young people aged 16 -18 years old. To ensure those attending the workshops are young people we ask that videos are on. If participants join without video and cannot verify they are a young person, we will remove that participant from the session. The safety of our participants is paramount, and the virtual room will be locked after the sessions have started.
