After 5 Years, Africa Writes Party is back at Rich Mix

Following 2017’s sold out R.A.P Party, Africa Writes returns with the official festival party hosted by Octavia Poetry Collective at the Rich Mix. Join us for a Wakanda-themed evening of poetry, music and dancing into the night / future where we’ll showcase and celebrate the words, the art, the song of womxn from Africa and the diaspora.

Rich Mix is the place to be on Saturday 30 June. This year’s party will enchant Rich Mix’s stage with an evening of thoughtful moments, movement and celebration. As home of this year’s party, Africa Writes’s programme is deepened by the Rich Mix’s inclusion as one of the venue partners. Africa Writes values the Rich Mix as being one of the most vital cultural spaces in London that brings together artists and people of diverse backgrounds through art and culture. For long-standing supporters of Africa Writes you may remember that the festival hosted its headlined party at the Rich Mix in 2013 in partnership with Numbi Arts! Five years later, the festival’s party finds itself back on the venue’s stage.

The evening will be hosted by Octavia Poetry Collective (a poetry group of women of colour, led by Rachel Long) and special guest poets, followed by dancing and afro-influenced sounds from across the diaspora, a live band and guest DJs. Rich Mix will be transformed into Wakanda purples and silvers, so prepare to indulge in afro-futuristic magic.

And this will not be the only time we have flooded the Rich Mix’s stage with kaleidoscopic lights and sound. Our sister festival, Film Africa, transported the stage to an afro-sounding heaven with live performances by Red-Red and Nakhane in 2017.
